Associate Professor and Academic Leader - Teaching and Learning: Agricultural, Earth and Environmental Science

Prof. Romano Lottering assumes the position of Associate Professor in Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems. He serves as Academic Leader of Teaching and Learning within the School of Agricultural, Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Holding a Doctorate in Environmental Science, a Master’s in Applied Environmental Science (Cum laude), a Bachelor of Science Honours in Environmental Science, and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science, all conferred by the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Prof. Lottering is distinguished in his academic achievements. He is recognized as an NRF-rated researcher and holds professional registration as a natural scientist in Geospatial Science with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP). Concurrently, Prof. Lottering serves as Chair of the Geospatial Science Professional Advisory Committee of SACNASP, where his responsibilities encompass the assessment of applications and provision of recommendations for the registration of new applicants. To date, Prof. Lottering has graduated over 30 postgraduate students and has over 60 peer-reviewed articles in local and international journals and conference proceedings. His scholarly pursuits revolve around pioneering advancements in remote sensing methodologies, with a primary focus on facilitating informed decision-making processes and enhancing our comprehension of environmental phenomena amidst dynamic climatic conditions.
