Professor Gebreslasie received his MSc and Ph.D. degrees from the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) in 2004 and 2009, respectively. He worked for the South Africa Medical Research Council as a Senior Scientist for three years. He joined the UKZN, School of Agriculture, Earth, and Environmental Sciences as a lecturer in 2012. He has graduated Seven students with PhDs and more than 20 students with MSc degrees. Prof Gebreslasie is a member, as a supervisor, of the South Africa System Analysis Centre (SASAC) capacity development program.
As a Geographer specializing in Geoinformation Sciences, Prof Gebreslasie pursues an interdisciplinary research agenda that focuses on modelling and evaluating the spatial and temporal interaction/changes between the environment’s physical, climatic, and biological components, including their impact on human health.
