I have over 25 years of teaching and research expertise in various institutions of higher learning in Africa. I am Full Professor in Plant Breeding and Chair of Crop Science and Deputy Director of the ACCI at UKZN.
I have graduated to completion 40 Doctoral, 30 Masters and 11 Honours students and mentored two postdoc fellows from west, east and southern African countries. I have produced over 250 peer reviewed scientific publications and book chapters. Over the period 2017 to 2020 I was second among the top 500 authors in terms of scholarly output in Africa in Agricultural and Biological Sciences . I have been one of the top 30 productive researchers at UKZN over the past four years consecutively.
I was nominated for Africa’s top 20 most influential plant breeders of 2020 by the Southern Africa Plant Breeders Association.
